Welcome to NightSCOPE
NightSCOPE is designed to help local policymakers and practitioners assess and strengthen their structures for providing safe and healthy nightlife environments.
NightSCOPE can be used for a city, town or other specified geographical nightlife area. It involves the completion of an online questionnaire by representatives from a range of local agencies. Responses are brought together and analysed using a grading system to identify where structures are well developed and where they could be improved. Results are presented in report and a user manual provides advice on action that can be undertaken to strengthen practice.
The resource is built around four key principles that can provide the basis for effective local action in managing nightlife settings:
- Sound knowledge of local nightlife issues
- Commitment to creating safe and healthy nightlife
- Partnership working between key local agencies
- Evidence-based practice
NightSCOPE requires one individual to act as a Local Coordinator. This individual will define the geographical area being assessed and identify appropriate agency representatives from between six and eight partner agencies to participate. These agencies can include health services, police, local authorities, licensing authorities, hospital emergency departments, public transport authorities, ambulance services, fire services, drug and alcohol services and other appropriate agencies.
